MyGoals
My name is Char'lese Perry and I am currently a senior at Canisius College. Majoring in clinical psychology with a focus in children development I plan to open up a non-profit organization, such as a community center whos mission statement will be encouraging, inspiring, loving and creating healthy children restricted by their unhealthy environment. I believe that every child can be reached and can be saved, but we as a people have to find the correct method. In order to achieve my goal I want to absorb all that I can in my field, giving me the knowledge to go with my passion for helping and changing my community.

Practicum Experience
As part of my psychology major, I participated in an internship located at the Women's and Children's Hospital Early Childhood Program and Therapeutic Preschool. As an intern, I was mostly responsible for the participation in the evaluation team that was responsible for interviewing and assessing infants and preschoolers. At the site I was allowed to help with educational, speech, psychological and social evaluations. Off site I was allowed to observe children in their school or daycare setting. Just about every week we would meet to discuss the results of the testing and the observation and decide if the child needed services. If the child needed services such as occupational therapy, pysical therapy or any other services, we would suggest it to the CPSE. The following is my weekly log beginning September 12, 2005 and ending March 2, 2006.

Total Hours: 142 hours
Working at the ECP and the TP has been truly great experience. When I first started school, I entered as an early childhood teaching major. I have always had this mission of helping children and I thought that teaching was what I wanted to do. I often talk about changing the window that a child look from, providing opportunities to have a better life. In my first year, I took a psychology class and fell absolutely and love with the fact that we as a society have the ability to change the attitudes and perspectives of the youth. There are so many children that need help and by time it is noticed it is too late. By catching the littlest problems at an early age, we decrease the chances of the child becoming a dysfunctional adult, which is truly the concern of each individual in society. By working this internship, I was able to see the great potential that early intervention could have. I am truly grateful to Norman Kohn and both the Early Childhood Program and Therapeutic Preschool for allowing me to witness their hard work and dedication that is often unnoticed.
