Activities: Dr Dr. Bayer on April 24th a guest speaker from the "Muddpies children Museum" (a Museum that is currently begin built downtown for children downtown)came to talk and teach the children about plants and animals. She also talked about how different plants and animals change in their environment. She informed the children that people are animal-they are mammals. The children also learned that insects and animals respond different in sun and daylight and they travel in different seasons such as winter. She talked about animals that spin their own web, and certain insects that made silk by spinning their webs. She shared with the students interesting facts about frogs and turtles. Such as frogs in the winter live three or four feet in the ground in order to stay alive durning the winter season. Also, frogs and turtles hearts' beat show down to one heart beat an hour in the winter. Then she began to talk about how humans us animals for their reasources such as !
for food and clothing. For example, sheeps are used for fur and wool is used for blankets. This lady also brought in different types of fur for the children to see and put on. The children was excited when it was their turn to put on the fur coats. When they put the furs on they thought they were cool. The children however, I noticed did not want to share in trying on the fur coats. In this case I had to step in to make sure every child got a chance to put these coats on. For a minute, the children also got disruptive and began to talk to much, and very loud. We instructed the children to calm down and to listen to the instructor, they immediately follow directions. This day I believe the children had a lot of fun. They were able to learn cool thing about animals and realize how important animals are to us. Without certains types of animal the clothes that we were would not exist. The children were fansinated with that ideal that the clothes they wear come from a!
nimals. I must say today at my intership was an exciting day,!

Activities: Dear Dr. Bayer, in this update of my intership experience I will inform you of what happen at my intership on April the 24th. I will also up date you to what has happen the two saturdays in March which is the 13th and the 20th within this week. Once I fill you in on these events I will have two saturdays left to tell you about, which is March the 27th and April the third. April 1oth and April the 17th I did not have to go to my intership because no activites where going on these saturdays because of the kids Easter break. Also, I would like to inform you that my intership ends May 15th. I have recorded all these incidents in my journal and this week I will try to set up a time to meet with you to let you know how my intership is going and to show you my journal.
On April the 24 had a Harmonica work shop. This workshop was consisted of children in second grade through eigh grade. A man named Rick Nicotra who is an experience harmonica teacher came in to teach the kids the basic of of harmonica playing. He also started teaching them the blues. The main objective of this workshop is to given the students a creative musical experience they will never forget and also have them play with a band for an event called "Music, Arts & Community on June 5, 2004. For the rest of the saturdays I will be there the children will learn how to play new songs on their harmonica for this event.
The harmonica class are divided up into three sessions. Children who are in grade 2-3 they will learn how to play the hermonica from 9:00-9:45. Children grade 4-5 will attend classes from 10:00-10:45 and children grade 6-8 will attend class from 11:00-11:45.
When the children were not in class I played games with them. We play tic tack toe mostly. They also drawed. I also attended two of their classes. In the classes I notice the kids were very excited to learn how to play the harmonica. They listen to the instructor very well and play the songs flawnessly. Everyone played in unison. The instructor even said they was great. Two songs they learned how to play was "Hot Cross Buns" and "Mary had a little lamb". I also noticed the instructor enjoyed teaching the kids how to play he was very outgoing and the children pick up on it. One of the children said to the instructor "you really like what you are doing don't you" and he said "yes very much". In conclusion, I think it is extremely important to like what you teach children in order for them to enjoy it too. For if you are excited about something you like children are more likely to be excited about it too!

Activities: Dear Dr. Bayer sorry I am sorry that it has took a time for me to finally contact you. I was on vacation , however every day from now on I will write to you to let you know what I have done so far at this center. My intership is every saturday from 8:30 am to 12.00pm. It first started march 6, 2004. Today I will inform you of what I learned and witness on this date and for the rest of the week I will fill you in on the other weekend activities that took place at this center. On March 6, 2004 this center was running a science activity day. A woman from a buffalo science building came in to run a workshop for the kids on solids and liquids. With her she brought material such as water, winger, pop, wood, glass, slim and etc. The kids had to identify where a certain object was a solid or liquid (kids at this center ages ranges from 6-14 years old. The kids at this center so very excited to learned whether a substance was a solid or liquid. They liked observi!
ng objects and expriementing with them. However, when they looked at the slim they could not figure out whether this substance was a solid or liquid. Dr. Bayer you see slim take on the object of the container like a liquid does, as well as, it is also a solid. Also, slim can be breakable. The instuctor inform the children that slim is a solid and a liquid. In observing the instructor I believe she did an excellent job presenting her work shop. She asks the children alot of questions, she had them experimenting on different objects, and every chance she got she engage with them. I believe this method of instructing and teaching kids is very important because the kids are more likely to actively engage in learining and participate more in activities used to help them learn. Overall, I believe this workshop was very productive. It helped kids learned a element of science in a very fun way. In the future if I had to run a workshop for kids I would run one similar to th!
e way this one was constructed. Workshop such as this one can !
be very
success in helping the learning process.
